Surprising York

The pride of York is the largest Gothic church in northern Europe at 540ft long and 200 ft tall

Entering old York through the fourth-century Roman built Bootham Bar (gate)

Looking down Low Petergate, the street our apartment is located

Our apartment building is modern but other buildings in our courtyard are from the 1600's

We were sad to leave such a lovely place as Abbey Grange and the beautiful Village of Broadway but a new adventure awaited us so off we went, heading north under heavy skies.  The 3 hour journey was quite relaxing as we drove on major roads right into York.  Then it got a little difficult as we were staying in the old town where its pedestrian only.  Our parking spot was a 5 minute walk from our apartment and our Tom Tom guided us without a misstep.  We unloaded the car and walked into old town York through the 13th century Bootham Bar (gate), passed the very impressive York Minster and down Low Petergate (our street) to our apartment complex.  It was as we had hoped and expected, very spacious and well equipped.  Stores close early in old town (5:30pm) so we headed out to find a grocery store before unpacking.  It was a real eye opener to walk around the old town.  York not only has a powerful past but it has the power to surprise as a tourist destination as well.   Really looking forward to spending the next couple of days exploring all the nooks and crannies of this historic city.
