Woke up to a beautiful sunny day and after breakfast headed out to Windsor Castle, a 45 minute train ride outside of London. The quaint town of Windsor grew up around around the royal residence which was started by William the Conqueror in 1070 and has been home to 39 monarchs including the current Queen Elizabeth. This makes Windsor Castle the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Although many monarchs changed and/or added to the castles design, its footprint or boundary has not changed since its inception in 1070. After taking the audio tour of the castle we headed into old town Windsor and found a wonderful timber-framed home built in the 1600's that is now a restaurant and had lunch.
It was time to head back into London as we had tickets to see the musical We Will Rock You, based on the music of Queen. It was a wonderful experience and we highly recommend it to any Queen or Freddie Mercury fans.
