The Adventure Begins

Rita patiently waiting, in the park across from our apartment, for the keys to arrive.

May 17th has arrived and everything that could be done has been done to prepare for our 7 week UK adventure. The flight was uneventful and arrived on time at London Heathrow to wait for Rita who was arriving from Copenhagen (Rita left 10 days earlier to visit her parents). We took the underground to South Kensington and a short taxi to our Chelsea apartment to find the first frustration of our trip. Rita had arranged for the rental agency to meet us at the apartment between 2:00 and 3:00. We arrived at 2:30 and nobody was there to greet us. Rita called the agency and they said it would take an hour to get somebody there. We were jet lagged, grumpy and in need of a hot shower, so we were not amused. At least there was a nice park with benches just across the street. 90 minutes later the person arrived with the keys. I was boiling at this point and let him have a full on red faced, blue veined and very loud tirade of how unacceptable their service was. This actually took away my jet lag and I felt much better. After unpacking and having a wonderful hot shower we went out for a walk to check out our neighborhood. Found a nice looking pub and had our first dinner on British soil (Rita had fish and chips and I had bangers and mash) with a local bitter (beer). Continued on our walk-about as we did not want to go to bed before 10:00pm. Had a great sleep and woke up in the morning ready for our adventure to begin.
